Two people airlifted to different hospitals after a tour bus crashed with a car on Sunday were reported to be in a critical condition.
The mini bus was returning from a hot air balloon ride when it crashed with a car at around 10.20am on Mundoolun Rd, Mundoolun.
Ambulance officers said there were a total of 24 patients at the scene and 19 of them were taken to hospital – eight of them to Logan Hospital.
LifeFlight said in a statement that a woman in her 20s, the driver of the car, suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” and was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital.
The driver of the mini bus was taken by helicopter to Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Both drivers were reported to have been trapped in their vehicles for more than an hour before being cut free by emergency teams.
Nine mini bus passengers were taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital. One female had a chest injury.
Ambulance officers said most of the passengers were wearing seat belts. Most had bloody noses, scratches and bruises which were created from shattered glass.
The two helicopters landed close to the crash site, on the road which had been cleared by police to create a safe landing zone.
Members of the LifeFlight medical team immediately joined Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics in treating patients who had been injured in the collision, including a woman who was still trapped in the wreckage, the statement said.
