Zone chair set to shape Logan’s real estate landscape

The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has announced the appointment of 16 Zone Chairs, who lend their voice and local insights to Queensland’s largest real estate markets.

Zone Chairs fulfil a vital role for the REIQ, representing the organisation at a local level and ensuring the Queensland peak body keeps its finger on the pulse throughout the state.

REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella congratulated the incoming Zone Chairs for the two-year term from 2024-2025, who officially commence their roles on 1 January 2024.

“Queensland has such a highly decentralised population, and so by nature is home to a series of quite different real estate markets,” Ms Mercorella said.

“Just as the Brisbane market doesn’t necessarily mirror Sydney or Melbourne, we recognise that what’s happening in Queensland’s south-east corner real estate market won’t always be the case in regional markets.

“That’s why we ensure all of Queensland’s major real estate markets have local representation, providing first-hand perspective and insight about the sales and rental markets.

The Chair for Brisbane Southern Suburbs and Logan is LJ Hooker Yarrabilba principal Christie Smith.

Christie open the doors of LJ Hooker Yarrabilba in 2014, and the office is now responsible for 50 per cent of residential house sales in the Yarrabilba area and over 400 properties under management.

According to her profile Ms Smith’s goal is to become “one of the largest and most successful LJ Hooker agencies in Queensland with a great reputation for customer service”.

“Yarrabilba is a rapidly growing community in South East Queensland and the largest of the Lend Lease masterplan estates,” her profile states.

“Construction started in 2013 and will continue for approximately 30 years.

“In that time the estate will grow to 17,000 lots and an estimated 52,000 residents.”

Ms Mercorella said Zone Chairs were the “local face of the REIQ throughout Queensland”, and provided “boots-on-the-ground representation” in all corners of the state.

“They are an integral part of the chain, representing their real estate community’s needs to us and sharing our vision with our members,” she said.

“I’m thrilled to announce the REIQ Zone Chair cohort for 2024-25 – our local ambassadors and regional voices for the real estate profession.”
