We know our State is blessed with incredible natural resources and whilst we’re known as the Sunshine State, it’s our people – Queenslanders themselves that are our greatest asset.
For generations, they have built our State as a powerhouse of resources and energy and now Queenslanders are the key ingredient who will build a new clean, reliable, and affordable energy system.
Queenslanders have worked hard to build a publicly owned energy system in Queensland and by keeping it that way, we can ensure the transition is done in an orderly way.
The Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan will harness the skills, ambition, and energy of Queenslanders to deliver nation building infrastructure and drive more investment in renewable energy, create more jobs, and meet our 50 per cent renewable energy target by 2030.
By working together, we will transform our energy system, with new targets of 70 per cent renewable energy by 2032 and 80 percent by 2035 and outline how we’ll combat climate change by reducing sector emissions by 96% in 2040.
It’s important that workers and communities benefit from our state’s energy transition. We will invest in our publicly owned power stations by converting them into Energy Hubs – keeping our electricity system secure and reliable.
A landmark agreement with energy Unions for a new Job Security Guarantee will give energy workers certainty about their future, as well as choices and opportunities for them and their communities.
Our plan invests in skills, training, and support for both the energy sector workforce and new entrants.
We have set out a clear pathway to achieve our targets in the ‘Queensland SuperGrid Infrastructure Blueprint’.
This Blueprint maps the optimal infrastructure pathway to build the SuperGrid and will guide us to make the right investments at the right time, creating more than 100,000 new jobs by 2040, with around 70 per cent of these new jobs in regional Queensland.
Our emerging green hydrogen industry is key to reducing global energy sector emissions, and Queensland is already attracting significant international investment.
We’ll continue to establish what will become one of the largest trade opportunities in our state’s history, through further investment and support for both domestic and export production projects, creating supply chain opportunities for manufacturers across the state.
Future clean energy projects will deliver local benefits and jobs in local communities, with 95% of the investment in the regions.
The Plan sets out actions that support industry, households, and businesses to access low cost, low emissions electricity too.
Collectively the strategies and investments we’ll make are modelled to deliver lower electricity prices for Queensland households and significantly boost economic activity. Under the Energy and Jobs Plan, Queenslanders are set to save, with retail bills reaching $150 lower than without a plan by 2032.
Through the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan, we will deliver a clean, reliable, and affordable energy system that delivers power for generations.
