What you get isn’t always what you see

People contain multitudes, and so to do places.

But what do we want to be known for in Logan City?

I know what I’d like the answer to be.

Each week our community newspaper covers a range of local stories, most of which are overwhelming positive and depict the best of our community and our neighbourhood.

In collating these pieces our team gets to witness the best of the best in our community, but it’s hard not to have the experience marred by the worst, at times.

This issue of MyCityLogan alone, covers off on a breadth of stories that provide a glimpse into the last week in our city.

From Archibald-prize-attempting citizens creating world-class art to allegedly over-the-limit drivers almost killing people in their own lounge room by careening off the road and into a, (luckily empty), living room.

But which one of these stories would you be most likely to relay to your friend at the Sunday afternoon BBQ?

There is power in knowledge, and as an independent newspaper it is always our mission to meet the public’s right to know about what is happening in their own backyard – the good, bad and the ugly.

But in our own time, let’s talk about the good stuff.

Let’s take pride in the artists taking a stab at the big prizes, and the businesses fighting against rising electricity costs with their technological advances and the police officers who have devoted their lives to keeping our community safe.

Let’s talk less about the people and things that disrupt our peace and give us the bad name we’ve worked so hard to shake off.

What you get isn’t always what you see.
