A seven-month sting has seen an Edens Landing man, 26, charged with trafficking cocaine.
Police say five others were charged with a range of drug and gun offences, including possession of a handgun designed to look like an iPhone.
The operation, led by detectives from the Crime and Intelligence Command Organised Crime Gangs Group, began last September on the Gold Coast.
It closed today (Tuesday 9 April) after a number of search warrants were executed over the weekend at properties in Surfers Paradise and Biggera Waters.
Police say they found six guns – one “iPhone handgun”, two shotguns (one shortened), two rifles (one shortened), and one pen gun – as well as ammunition, cocaine, methylamphetamine and “large amounts of cash”.
Detective Inspector Craig Bowman from the Organised Crime Gangs Group said the possession of guns and drugs was a dangerous combination.
“Ballistic testing is underway to determine if the weapon that is disguised to look like a iPhone, which can be folded to appear as a firearm, is actually capable of firing projectiles,” Detective Inspector Bowman said.
“The nature of this alleged offending is very concerning. I would like to reassure the community we will continue to direct our specialist resources and capabilities and take all available actions to keep the community safe from harm.”
