Twin Rivers career lift

The Twin Rivers Community Centre has received a $1.81 million boost to programs offering employment pathways and opportunities to at-risk and disadvantaged locals.

Three programs run by the Eagleby centre will be funded by the money, which was gifted by the state government to assist more than 100 job seekers.

More than $1.14 million will go towards traineeships for 46 disadvantaged jobseekers – enabling them to complete a Certificate I in either Hospitality, Retail Services or Workplace Skills.

Almost $145,000 will fund a work skills program for 40 people looking for jobs in the care sector, including disability, aged care, and health care.

The program will help participants undertake a Certificate III in Individual Support, which incorporates 120 hours of placement.

Another $517,000 will employ up to 20 locals experiencing mental health, alcohol, and other drug issues, or those experiencing domestic abuse to complete a Certificate I in Construction.

They will also work on tiny homes, painting, tiling, constructing planter boxes, park benches, and general repairs at Twin Rivers.

More than 800 people have participated in programs run by the Twin Rivers centre over the years.

Manager Annelise Hellberg said the centre was “privileged” to partner with government to provide the programs.

“Skilling Queenslanders for Work is a clever initiative that aligns brilliantly with our vision to Connect, Build and Equip people for success in all areas of life,” Ms Hellberg said.

Local member for Macalister Melissa McMahon said Twin Rivers was “an extraordinary example of community focus in practice”.

“The new Miles Labor Government couldn’t be happier to support them,” she said.

“With the latest funding round now open, more organisations can follow the lead of Twin Rivers and be part of something bigger – connecting job seekers with skills and employment, while building stronger, more caring communities.

“With continued investment and commitment, we are paving the way for a stronger, more resilient Queensland for everyone.”
