Sustainability shop to open in Logan

A SHOP regarded as Logan’s top tourist attraction is hoping to open a sustainable living shop before Boxing Day.

Logan IKEA will be one of a number around the country to open the new store, which is geared to provide customers a range of products which can help reduce their climate footprint at home.

A survey commissioned by the Swedish giant showed Queenslanders had some different views on sustainability habits:

  • 60% of Aussies think they should adopt more sustainable practices in their home, however over a third are holding back from making their home more sustainable due to cost.
  • Aussies say they would have to see an average return on investment of $55 per week to consider being more sustainable, with Queenslanders specifically, mirroring the national average, needing to save $56 per week.
  • All states except Victoria and Queensland reported recycling as the most important thing they could do to be sustainable, while the other two states want to prioritise saving energy above all.
  • Interestingly, Queensland is the state most likely to purchase energy saving lightbulbs in an effort to be more sustainable (74%) compared to any other state.
  • Queensland, alongside SA and ACT, are the states least likely to buy second hand furniture.

“Right now, the cost of living, energy and food are all rapidly increasing and we understand the challenges consumers face when it comes to living sustainably at home,” IKEA’s Melissa Hamilton said.

“There’s still a perception that introducing sustainable products or habits in the home will cost too much, but it’s quite the opposite. There’s never been a better time to help Aussies to reduce their climate footprint at home with affordable products and low-cost solutions from IKEA which can also save them money longer term.”
