Students bring older people into the classroom

Inspired by a television show that unites 4-year-olds with people in aged care, a Cornubia home is piloting its own inter-generational program.

Infinite Care aged care provider is teaming up with Gold Coast school Coomera Anglican College to bring generations closer together.

The program will be driven by Intergenerational Learning Australia, which is the same organisation behind the ABC series, Old Peoples Home for Four-Year-Olds, and Old Peoples Home for Teenagers.

For now, the bond will be via video link, streaming between the school and residents at the Cornubia aged care facility.

The program provides a unique and powerful opportunity for the students and residents to learn from each other through jokes, music, games and interview type questions, organisers said.

“The online program is a great way to bring intergenerational learning to the classroom and provide meaningful connections between young people and older adults,” Infinite Care’s founder and joint managing director Chris Stride said.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Coomera Anglican College to make this program a success and hope that programs like this end up being in all our homes as the benefits to our residents are immeasurable.”

Infinite Care is committed to addressing the social isolation and intergenerational disconnect that can occur in our communities.

The company’s latest initiatives are just one way it is working to create meaningful connections between generations and build stronger, more inclusive communities.
