Storm victims eligible for up to $900

Those impacted by Saturday’s storms are eligible for $180 per person, or up to $900 Emergency Hardship Assistance per family.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the hail damage was a reminder of storm season.

State Emergency Service workers received more than 600 calls in the City of Logan area alone, predominantly from Boronia Heights, Hillcrest and Logan Village.

Ms Palaszczuk said grants would help with essentials such as food and clothing.

“The damage this storm did is absolutely shocking, and I know every little bit helps,” she said in a statement.

Other grants such the Essential Household Contents Grant, Structural Assistance Grant and Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Grant are also available as a safety net for eligible residents who satisfy an income test, are uninsured and have experienced certain loss or damage.

“Through jointly funded Commonwealth/State-Disaster Relief Funding Arrangements (DRFA), Emergency Hardship Assistance grants are available to help cover the costs of essential items, such as food and clothing, for people in these areas who were directly impacted by this disaster,” the Premier said.

People who need financial assistance can phone the Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.

Alternatively, they can download and use the Self-recovery app or visit www.communityrecovery.qld.gov.au
