Stolen puppies ‘a unique case’

Police have said the theft of 10 German Shepherds puppies from a home in North Maclean does not represent a wider problem with stolen pets in the community.

The 5-week-old litter was stolen from a Dundee Road home on October 31 and have not yet been found, while two adult German Shepherds were found hog-tied near the litter enclosure.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said the incident is an anomaly and that they are unable to provide further comment at this time.

“The detective investigating this matter has advised that the theft of puppies it is not a regular occurrence, and that this case is relatively unique,” the spokesperson said.

The purebred puppies were taken between 4.30pm and 8pm on the Sunday, October 31.

Dog breeder Amanda Johnston has since issued an impassioned plea for their return.

Ms Johnston briefly went out on October 31, leaving the puppies and the two adult dogs together in a large shed on her property.

She returned to find the adult dogs, including the mother, bound with rope from the waist to their legs.

The puppies are described as a mixture of black and black and tan dogs with a variety of long and short coats.

As the puppies are only five weeks old, they were yet to be microchipped, making the task of locating them harder.

Police have urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of the puppies to report it to them.
