NAIDOC Week has kicked off, and to celebrate, a local employment office is hosting events to spark conversation and increase awareness about the history and culture of local land.
The events, at the Workways Browns Plains office (Tuesday 4 July) and Woodridge office (Wednesday 5 July), will consist of smoking ceremonies, Aboriginal song and dance, bush tucker morning tea, and other Indigenous activities and traditions.
Logan Elders, Uncle Joe Kirk, Aunty Freda Mitchell and Aunty June Anderson, will be there to provide an overview of their mob’s history and lives, and chat to attendees about a range of topics
Aunty June Anderson’s mural paintings will be on display with the aim of starting conversation.
Logan libraries are also hosting NAIDOC events, with The Spirit of the Dreaming showing tomorrow (Wednesday 5 July) from 11-11.45am at Logan Central Library and 2-2.45pm at Logan Hyperdome Library.
The Logan NAIDOC Family Fun Day kicks off at 9am today (Tuesday 4 July) and will run until 2.30pm at the Kingston Butter Factory Cultural Precinct.
