Soccer has made its way back to Hyde Park in Regents Park after almost a decade, with Southern Districts United Football Club taking over the lease.
The park was home to Logan City Bears Grid Iron Club until they moved to Grosvenor Park in Browns Plains.
Last week, Logan City Council officially awarded the facility lease to the soccer club.
United club president, Richard Moore, said it was an exciting time for both the sport and the club.
“After the Socceroos’ great performance at last year’s Men’s World Cup, and Australia hosting the Women’s edition this year – it’s clear that football is on the rise” Mr Moore said.
“With the move to Hyde Park, Southern Districts United is in the best position possible to grow and accommodate new players who will inevitably be drawn to the game after watching their footballing heroes represent the green and gold.”
Historically, Browns Plains State High School has called the club home.
Mr Moore said United would continue to host their games at the school until the end of the season, despite holding the lease to the Hyde Park facility.
“We plan on moving training to the field soon, however, our current location at Browns Plains State High School is perfect for us to complete our 2023 season,” he said.
“We also wanted to reiterate that our relationship with Browns Plains State High School will continue for as long as they would like us at the facility.
“They have been phenomenal hosts since 2018 and we will continue to host games at Ivor Street for the remainder of the 2023 season.”
