Logan City Council have changed the planned storage area of machinery and equipment to be used for the extension of Loganlea Road, following complaints from surrounding residents and businesses.
Originally, the contractor for the project, SEE Civil, sought to have equipment stored inside Meadowbrook Golf Club grounds, before negotiating with council to use the land just outside the course.
Two weeks ago, Meadowbrook Golf Club director, Tom Linskey, said he had no communication or consultation with Council regarding the project other than a flyer placed in his letterbox.
Last week, Mr Linskey said the golf club received a letter from council stating an alternative storage area had been found.
A Logan City Council spokesperson told MyCityLogan the contractor, with council consultation, changed the preferred storage location after conducting an investigation into alternative site options.
According to the spokesperson, the storage area would also serve as a site office.
“Logan City Council’s appointed contractor has established a temporary site compound on Meakin Road at Slacks Creek as upgrade works continue on Loganlea Road,” the spokesperson said.
“The compound will operate as a site office for the appointed contractor as well as a secure storage and laydown area for materials and machinery.”
Mr Linskey said he was pleased with council’s decision.
“I am very happy that common sense has prevailed, and we don’t have a construction site impeding entry to the club,” Mr Linskey said.
“We have over 2000 people per week using the club facilities so it is very good that council could find a suitable alternative.”
A neighbour to the golf club, Mark Sinclair, said he was relieved the planned site had been changed.
“It’s fantastic,” Mr Sinclair said.
Mr Sinclair said Meakin Road was one of the spots he originally thought the compound should be located.
He said the previously planned compound area was “not a good look” for local residents and businesses.
