Shopping list of cheer

There is a great and easy way to spread some Christmas cheer through the festive season this year.
All community welfare organisations are saying it is likely to be the worst Christmas on record for many families.
Covid-19 and an economic downturn are causing more people to live on or below the poverty line, according to statistics from the Salvation Army.
Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association has for 30 years been involved with the local community and is endeavouring to put together 300 hampers for people who need it most this Christmas.
The manager of community liaison, program innovation and administration Gillian Marshall said they were one of a few organisations delivering Christmas hampers to individuals and families that the centre has connected with throughout the year and who are doing it tough in 2020.
“We are aiming to deliver 300 this year,” she said.
“There are a number of different ways people can donate and support our Christmas hamper appeal to support families now and beyond.”
The shopping list published to the left is what the centre remains short of and will need as a matter of urgency if hampers are to be delivered in time.
Otherwise, people can donate money to the Give Now campaign, which will be used to buy items in short supply.
Donations are tax deductible.
Another way people can help is to “adopt a family” which means ages and genders of children are provided and a complete hamper is delivered.

The Logan East Community Centre will also be hosting a Christmas carols event in its carpark at 53 Cinderella Drive, Springwood, on Wednesday December 9 from 6pm-8pm.
