Shame on the vandals and looters

Not one to normally write to a newspaper, last week I shook my head in disgust.

My early morning walks take me near the charity shops at the top end of Wembley Road.

Strewn over the surrounding footpaths and roadway were the remains of donations.

Bags ripped apart, clothes, toys and books everywhere.

It was like wild dogs had been through it.

If that wasn’t enough, the fire hose reel box was broken open (heaven only know what they did to that) – and then the graffiti.

They wrote over the walls, all really disappointing.

Two days later, the same scenario for both Lifeline and Salvos – donations were tossed everywhere.

I get that the charities stopped putting clothing bins out because people would also dump rubbish (including prawn heads, dirty nappies, I’m told) into them.

Okay, for those who can’t read signs and still leave their donations at their doors, all of your donations get ruined.

Take them in during business hours maybe.

To those who pick through the bags and steal some contents? Seriously, shame on you.

These same charities have helplines to call.

Things are tough out there, but not to the point where you need to steal stuff and possibly put it on eBay.

Anyway, I wonder how discouraged those volunteers must feel each morning having to clean it all up.

Logan, we’re better than this.

Leslie,
