The anticipation has been building for what is sure to be a great night on Saturday as we officially launch the KBF Cultural Precinct.Â
Although the City of Logan is young and modern city looking to the future, there are many reminders of the past. And the Kingston Butter Factory is perhaps once of the most recognisable reminders of years gone by.Â
KBF was built in 1907 using local timber and over the years it has seen many changes, however the most recent redevelopment ensures the history has been preserved while giving it a new lease of life.Â
The original wooden building was reclad in brick and modernised in 1932.Â
By the mid-1930s, the factory was producing up to 50 tonnes of butter each week.Â
Dairy company Peters took over the factory in 1958 and it produced milk, cottage cheese and baker’s cheese until its closure in 1983.Â
Following its closure Logan City Council initiated the process of purchasing the factory – recognising its local historical significance. KBF was redeveloped into a community arts centre by Council as a 1988 Bicentennial project. Â
KBF is an important part of our history and will become a significant part of the city’s future.Â
The launch party this Saturday night is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the exciting future of this historic site.Â
I look forward to the cultural precinct becoming a space where the whole community can enjoy world-class entertainment, arts, culture, festivals, and events. The whole space has been transformed and is a game changer for our city.Â
It has been a challenging project, redeveloped during challenging times, however it is a great example of state, federal and local government working together to deliver important social infrastructure for the community while creating jobs in some tough times.Â
The KBF Launch Party is from 5.30pm until 10pm on April 30. The entertainment starts at 6.30pm.Â
Entry is free, but registration is essential. More information on the KBF Launch Party and other upcoming events is available on the new Logan Arts website – loganarts.com.au.Â
Another page will be etched in the KBF’s history books this Saturday and I encourage you to gather your friends and family to enjoy this great community venue. Â
