Shadow of uncertainty over Forde – Bert van Manen MP

If you missed the news this week, the federal government seem set on destroying our local infrastructure, with the announcement that many regional funding programs are now on notice under the latest infrastructure pipeline review which has now been extended until the end of 2023.

The Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his Infrastructure Minister Catherine King have once again let the people of Forde down.

These infrastructure projects were budgeted for under the Coalition before the last election, and now they’re being scrapped without any thought for the people in Forde.

These cuts come after the Federal Labor forecast that more than 400,000 people will migrate to Australia by the end of this current financial year, and another 315,000 people will move here by the end of 2024.

These were the statistics handed down in the Federal Budget by Treasurer Jim Chalmers.

Our infrastructure is already struggling.

Logan will be one of the fastest growing areas in Queensland over the next decade, with our population expected to grow from 350,000 to 500,000 by 2034.

This just adds unnecessary pressure to our system and shows how out of touch this Labor Government is.

I’ve called on Infrastructure Minister – Catherine King to come to the Forde Electorate and see these projects for herself before deciding to put the red pen through them.

The Former Coalition Government delivered many Legacy Investments across the electorate including upgrades to Exit 41 (Yatala South), Exit 45 (Ormeau) and Exit 49 (Pimpama) all of which are making travel to/from work safter and quicker for our constituents.

However, not all Infrastructure may be spared from the cuts.

Projects the Liberal National Party committed funding to, but are now in doubt include:

  • Black Spot Program – Intersection of Chambers Flat R and School Rd (Park Ridge)
  • Urban Congestion Fund – Chambers Flat Rd, between Park Ridge Rd and Derby Rd
  • Urban Congestion Fund – High Rd – Easterly St Upgrade (Waterford)
  • Urban Congestion Fund – Beenleigh Beaudesert Rd, Milne St to Tallagandra Rd (Beenleigh)

This latest funding review announced by the federal government shows just how out of touch the Prime Minister and his cabinet are when it comes to any Infrastructure Projects.

Thanks to Labor, the future of road safety is extremely uncertain for generations to come living in the Forde Electorate.
