A shadow cabinet shuffle has seen one of Logan’s state MPs promoted to the front bench for the first time, while others have been swapped around or left in the back seats.
Logan MP Linus Power has taken hold of his first ever portfolio as Shadow Minister for Mines and Natural Resources.
This covers safety and exploration, minerals and coal, petroleum and energy, critical transition minerals and the management of abandoned mines.
“This is an important position as mining is a vital jobs and export sector for Queensland,” Mr Power said.
“We should ensure that Queenslanders get the best value possible from the resources they own.
“Mining is a tough job, so it is vital I listen to the workers themselves.”
Former health minister and Waterford MP Shannon Fentiman has been moved to Treasury, while retaining a familiar position as Shadow Minister for Women.
Woodridge MP and current deputy opposition leader Cameron Dick, who was formerly treasurer and deputy premier, is now the Shadow Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Regional Development – matching the new deputy premier, LNP’s Jarrod Bleiji.
Jordan MP Charis Mullen will retain the Multicultural Affairs portfolio she ran while in government, but add the Public Works shadow ministry.
And Algester’s Leeanne Enoch will head several familiar portfolios as Minister for Closing the Gap, Reconciliation, Seniors and Disability Services, Integrity and the Arts.
However, former energy minister and current Springwood MP Mick de Brenni has been relieved of any shadow ministerial responsibilities.
He will instead be the Opposition Manager of Business and Shadow Cabinet secretary.
The Member for Macalister, Melissa McMahon, has also been left off the front bench.
She told MyCity Logan after the October 26 election she wasn’t interested in a portfolio.
“I’m not really interested in grabbing limelight or anything like that – my favourite part of this job is to be here and work with locals,” Ms McMahon said.
“It’s going to have to be my fight for the next four years to make sure that the Crisafulli government actually delivers what we need here in Beenleigh.
“Then I have to make sure that the projects that I have spent a lot of time getting on the map continue to be delivered and are not haltered or cut.
“Things like the City Road intersection upgrade, the new police station, the new ambulance station, the new primary school.”
