Shade? What shade?

I drove through Beenleigh during the week, when lo and behold to my left I saw those new discs everyone’s been talking about.

I nearly crashed into the car in front of me.

Who in their right mind thought those things would be able to offer up shade to anyone having their lunch?

I actually thought they’d not only apply shade, but also keep out the rain. Not a chance of that either.

If the council or whoever is managing this thing wants to rejuvenate the square and the CBD, surely they could come up with something better than a few holey discs.

As a result of seeing these discs, I took a drive around the town which, might I add, wasn’t easy with all the roadworks.

The majority of what I saw was empty shops and one rather tall new building which will probably be very nice as a backdrop to all the vacancies.

I, like many people in Beenleigh, want so badly for the CBD to succeed.

All I’m seeing however, is a great big waste of money with councillors beating their chests about how overhead art will draw thousands of people to a space with no plan.

Where are the events? Where are the activities that will draw people to the CBD?

I’m not just talking about one event. I’m talking about an ongoing program that gives people a reason to consider Beenleigh a destination worth visiting.

Surely we can do better than this.
