Second major vaccination hub on its way

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is tomorrow expected to announce the City of Logan’s second major vaccination hub.

Ms Palaszczuk is likely to conduct her 10am briefing from Mount Warren Indoor Sports Centre where carpet is laid and teams are hired to undertake a similar vaccination mission to the one at Logan Entertainment Centre.

Statistics last week showed that the number of people in Logan who had been given a first dose of Covid-19 vaccine was 20% lower than the state average.

More than 53% of Queenslanders have received their first shot.

Only slightly more than 33% of Logan residents have had theirs.

A special clinic at TAFE Loganlea was set up a week ago to vaccinate English students representing migrant and refugee communities.

The pop-up clinic will reopen in two weeks’ time to administer second jabs.

The move to open a super-centre at Mount Warren Park is believed to be a move to address the low Logan numbers.

Logan Entertainment Centre is being opened Sundays and Mondays to walk-in traffic. It is not known whether the Mount Warren set-up will do the same.

Logan Central is administering about 1000 vaccinations every day, but it hasn’t been enough to meet state averages despite more doctors offering vaccines to walk-in traffic.

More than 900 families were this week released from quarantine after a truck driver returning from New South Wales tested positive to Covid.

A 4-year-old girl who was with him on a shopping trip also tested positive, causing her daycare centre and Windaroo State School to shut down.

The risk passed quickly, however some close contact families remain in isolation as 900 return to fully-cleansed schools.
