The battle for Logan City’s top job is on now that a second candidate has launched his mayoral campaign.
Former Forde MP Brett Raguse announced his candidacy late Wednesday (25 January) night in a video posted onto Facebook.
This marks the ex-Labor politician’s second crack at Logan City Council’s top spot – coming second to current mayor Darren Power at the last election.
“Running Logan is a complicated business,” Mr Raguse said.
“It’s a big city – 12 divisional councillors with 12 very, very different areas.
“What we need is someone who has the leadership to bring those divisions together and make it a great city.”
Mr Raguse’s announcement comes months after his opponent, sitting councillor Jon Raven, announced his bid in late November 2023.
“This is not my first rodeo,” Mr Raguse said.
“After the tough years of COVID, the resultant economic instability, and the recent announcement that the current mayor, Darren Power, will not run again as mayor in 2024 – the residents of Logan will now have a choice to choose the person who they believe will be the best person to run our city.
“A person they believe will inspire a positive vision for Logan. A vision that will create unity amongst our residents and their local communities, whilst also driving and supporting economic stability for our city.
“I want to be that person.”
Mr Raguse said party politics “absolutely do not belong in local government”.
“… and I am very proud to offer the residents of Logan a real “independent” choice for mayor,” he said.
“We need a Mayor that can make decisions that are the best for the people of Logan, based on knowledge, integrity and experience – and certainly not influenced by any party agenda.”
