I want to congratulate one of the many outstanding schools in our area, Loganlea State High School.
The school was recently announced as a co-winner of the ‘Outdoor Education Award’ in the annual ’Outdoors Queensland Awards.’
The school is situated on a generous parcel of land bordering the Logan River, providing ample opportunities for the students to enjoy a bush setting hidden in the suburbs of Logan City.
I am a regular visitor to the Longanlea State High School campus, and I can attest to the quality of the outdoor education program.
They have undertaken regeneration programs, planting trees along the boundaries of the property, then witnessed first-hand the damaging effects of flooding during this year’s disaster.
Fortunately, through my office, the school received $7000 as part of the Jubilee Tree Program to replace many of the trees lost to the floods.
There was also a further $10,000 from the Stronger Communities Fund, allocated to the P&C to refurbish the existing greenhouses, as part of the mini-farm program.
This ‘Outdoor Education Award’ recognises that Loganlea State High School has one of the best outdoor education programs in Queensland.
Congratulations to everyone involved, particularly Nathan Watts, the outdoor education coordinator. I hope this wonderful program continues to deliver major benefits for the Loganlea SHS students for many years to come.
