High school students Shaniah Hessernan and Gloria Fekete were on their way to a suitcase rummage earlier this year in Brisbane when they started questioning why they needed to travel so far away from Logan to find secondhand fashion events.
“We thought about fast fashion, and because we were going to Brisbane rummage, we thought ‘why not make our own clothes market in Beenleigh because we don’t have anything like that here’,” Ms Hessernan said.
They then contacted the council to arrange a meeting where they presented their idea.
“It all started from there,” she said.
Before they knew it, they were organising their own event called the Wardrobe Rummage set for Sunday, November 14 at Beenleigh Town Square from 8am-12pm.
They partnered with local charity 4Voices for the event. Funds raised on the day will help the charity provide support services to domestic violence victims, such as resume writing or getting them access to phones and computers.
“We chose them because they’re not quite big yet and thought it was an opportunity for people to be able to discover them,” Ms Hessernan said.
The Beenleigh Wardrobe Rummage team is seeking vendors for the day to come and trade items, such as clothes, shoes, and accessories.
“They get to keep the profit from that, but their stall holder fee ($15) goes towards 4Voices and so does the gold coin donation for anybody coming,” Ms Hessernan said.
