The number of people downsizing into retirement communities continues to flourish.
In its latest release, Halcyon Rise sold 16 of 23Â available homes, with sales amassing almost $9 million.
Records from the event show most of the buyers already lived locally, but were looking for a lifestyle change. There were buyers from Springwood, Beenleigh, Coopers Plains and one from the Canberra region.
Halcyon’s project director Glenn Nugent said there has been a great deal of anticipation for these homes, particularly from buyers living within a 15km radius of the community.
“We have had huge demand for this stage as it contains homes which will be located closer to facilities as well as Flindersia Park, Logan’s newest riverside public park,” Mr Nugent said.
Mr Nugent said people were keen to remain in an area they were familiar with, due to its rural feel and close proximity to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Hinterland.
Local Logan couples Lyn and Mal Semple and Paul and Julie Creamer have been friends for more than 30 years. They’ve been neighbours and travelled the world together.
Now they are going to be neighbours at the Logan Reserve community.
The couples had discussed ‘next steps’ with each other, tossing up ideas to buy land and build homes together.
“I knew that Dr Bevan Geissmann had started Halcyon many years ago as he had been our family GP for a longtime,” Mr Semple said.
The resort is five minutes from his acreage property at Buccan.
They told their friends about their discovery and Paul Creamer admits they weren’t “greatly enthused” with the idea.
“I’m in the building industry and I had worked on a few other retirement villages so I wasn’t that excited about the prospect until we went and looked,” he said.
“From our perspective it’s pretty cool that we will be moving into the same community together,” Mr Semple said.
“We’ve been camping at Kingscliff together for 20 years, so the plan is to hook the caravan up and hit the road.”
