A 20 per cent cut in car registration costs will save Logan residents more than $30 million over the next year.
That’s a saving of around $85 for owners of the most common car – a standard four-cylinder.
A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said there were almost 370,000 vehicles in Logan eligible for the 20 per cent light vehicle rego reduction.
Recently introduced by the Queensland government, the reduction applies for registrations due from 16 September 2024.
It applies to both individuals and businesses, with savings ranging between $69.35 and $200 depending on the type of vehicle.
The Minister for Transport, Bart Mellish, said residents didn’t need to do anything to claim the discount.
“From this week, all rego renewal notices will include the discount,” he said.
“And if you’ve already paid your rego, you will get the discount next year.
“Every dollar counts, and this single saving could mean a night at the movies or the footy with your family, or a trip to the Ekka for a family of four.”
The premier, Steven Miles, said the cut was funded by the “super profits” from multinational mining companies.
“The good news – everyone is set to benefit over the next 12 months,” Mr Miles said.
“If you’ve paid your registration recently, you’ll benefit on your next renewal.”
