Rail trail a great asset for city

The City of Logan has many hidden gems and pockets – one of them is the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail.

Many people don’t know that we have this great asset in the city.

The 3.5km trail, which was opened at the end of last year, extends through native bushland and links the Logan Village Green to Buxton Park in Yarrabilba. Since it opened the trail has been well received and has been a popular walking, jogging and cycling route for local residents.

The rail trail has also played and important role in connecting the high-growth suburb of Yarrabilba to the shops and businesses of Logan Village. It has created economic opportunities within the area by enhancing the tourism potential of local businesses and services.

Divisional councillor, Laurie Koranski has been instrumental in delivering on her community’s vision to have a safe off-road connection between the historic Logan Village and the booming Yarrabilba community.

I was excited about the Queensland Government’s announcements to support a new stage of the rail trail in their budget last month. They matched council’s $3.5 million commitment towards the $7 million Bethania to Logan Village stage of the project.

The Bethania to Logan Village stage of the rail trail will convert 10km of unused rail corridor on the spur line of the de-commissioned Bethania-to-Beaudesert rail corridor. Not only does the trail have recreational benefits for residents it will also boost the local economies.

We are so fortunate to live in a city that is so diverse with so many options to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to traverse the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail, I encourage you to be tourist in your own city and see how one of our oldest parts of the city is connected with the newest.

The connection of our urban and rural lifestyle, the City of Logan truly is a great place to live, work and raise a family.
