I truly believe that every child should have access to a high-quality education, however that can become difficult when it comes to tertiary education.
Since 1996 Council, with the support of our local business community has been supporting bright young minds across the city through our Tertiary Education Bursary program.
Access to tertiary education is a privilege but at times it can be costly. Council’s bursaries can help students offset the cost of textbooks, travel and other expenses. The bursaries lessen the financial pressure on students, allowing them to focus on their studies.
Over the past 26 years these bursaries have assisted more than 100 young people to realise their dreams and pursue avenues that may not have been achievable without the financial assistance.
Importantly though, this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our local business community who understands the importance of education.
This program demonstrates what can be done at a local level to help make available to the young people of Logan one of the best things that can be given to them – an ongoing education.
On top of eight tertiary bursaries presented on Friday, Council was able to continue our commitment to increasing female participation in sport with two Game on for Women Bursaries also presented.
Council’s Game of for Women program was established in 2019 and aims to support women both on and off the field as players, coaches, officials and leaders.
The bursary component of the program provides financial support for local women to study a sport-related degree.
These incredible young people represent the diverse and wonderful people that make our city great.
I wish them all the very best in their studies.
