A new bus turnaround area on Underwood Road in Priestdale is making travel easier for local residents and visitors, with improvements to pedestrian safety and public transport connectivity.
The upgrade, which includes a new bus stop, a cul-de-sac with kerb and channel, an extension of the existing footpath, improved stormwater drainage and a large passenger set-down area outside the Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple is expected to provide an important public transport option.
Translink’s Route 578 now services the area, giving local families and visitors more accessible travel options to clubs such as Rochedale Tigers, Underwood Park Netball and Rochedale Rovers.
The Logan City Council’s project was supported by the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program and cost a total of $650,000.
Mayor Jon Raven described the upgrade as a positive development for the area.
“This upgrade has given more people a new way to discover this vibrant and colourful corner of our city,” Mayor Raven said.
“We’re excited to see busloads of people enjoying everything it has to offer.”
Councillor Lisa Bradley said the improvements would help tourism in the area, while Rankin MP Jim Chalmers anticipated the turnaround would ease traffic congestion.
“If you’ve spent as much time on Underwood Road as I have, you’ll know how busy it can get,” Dr Chalmers said.
“This project will ease congestion on one of our biggest and most important local roads and provide more transport options for the community.”
