Australia Day ride supports prostate cancer

The Rotary Club of Jimboomba will host their annual Australia Day Recreational ride this weekend 26 January.

With 30km, 75km, and 100km routes, the event will see riders take in scenic views throughout Logan and the Scenic Rim, with participants of all skill levels invited to attend.

This year, all proceeds from the bike ride tickets will again support Man Up, a nonprofit organisation committed to raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

Rotary Club President Regan Jannings spoke about the importance of the cause.

“Man Up has presented at the Rotary a couple of times and last year the presentation prompted one of our members to check back in with his doctors about his results,” she said.

“He went back to be retested, and doctors found him to have prostate cancer. If he never went for that follow up test, he probably wouldn’t be here.”

The ride showcases two picturesque regions.

Logan’s cultural diversity and lush landscapes will delight riders, while the Scenic Rim offers rolling hills, charming country towns, and stunning mountain views.

Participants are travelling from far and wide, with one couple from North Brisbane adding some fun to the event.

“There’s a husband and wife team doing the 30km ride on a tandem bike,” Mrs Jannings said.

“It’s really awesome to see everyone getting out there together to support Man Up and forming some great connections.”

After the ride, a breakfast and refreshments will be held at the Jimboomba and Districts Community Hall.

“The vibe in the hall is always high after the ride with everyone getting together and chatting,” Mrs Jannings said.

“A lot of the riders say that it’s worth it for the breakfast alone.”

Registrations are still open for the event, with half of the 250 tickets sold.

Tickets can be purchased here

Those who do not wish to ride, can still make a donation through the ticket purchase link.
