Pop up housing promise

Ready-made, factory-built, social housing is headed for Logan and is anticipated to arrive before the end of the year.

The state-government has funded the construction of over 50 factory-built houses to be inserted in communities across Queensland.

Housing minister, Meaghan Scanlon, said these homes were an effective way to help solve the housing crisis, mainly because “they’re quick to build”.

But so far, only two have been completed.

Last week, Longreach received two factory-built houses, with two more on the way later in the year.

The houses made a long, 1,200km journey from the Sunshine Coast.

The other 50 or so homes are said to be dispersed between Logan, Ipswich, Central Queensland and Wide Bay/Burnett.

But no firm dates have been given for their arrival in Logan.

When asked for details regarding the arrival of the pre-made houses in Logan, a Queensland Government spokesperson said no more information could be revealed.

In the initial statement released last week, housing minister Meaghan Scanlon said the current Labor government had built 4,400 homes since 2015.

“…and Queenslanders can expect more through our record $3.9 billion investment to help deliver 13,000 homes,” Ms Scanlon said.

“Every person deserves a roof over their head, no matter where they live in our state.

“To build thousands of new homes sooner we need to look at new ways to do things, and prefabricated houses will help fast-track the delivery of homes to the most vulnerable in our community who need them.

“We’ve delivered on average more than 10 homes a week since coming to government and I want to make sure we see more projects like this delivered as soon as possible.”
