HomeCommunityEnvironmentPoem: Desecration

Poem: Desecration

We are those who choose to live in Eagleby

Where the air is home to eagles flying free,

Where the life we live is tranquil

And for this we’re ever thankful,

But this “Place Of Eagles” soon may cease to be.

Our environment is now under attack

And the future of our Wetland’s looking black,

But the Powers-That-Be will rue it

If they build a road right through it

For after it’s gone it’s never coming back.

All the Wetlands and the rivers and the trees,

All the birdlife and the creatures there that breed

Will be gone from us forever

And we lose another treasure –

Mother Nature given extra wounds to bleed.

Why is government by people without vision

Where the common voice is just met with derision?

Will the leaders of our nation

Always rule by obfuscation

Or will truth and common sense cause a collision?

In the meantime eagles fly in Eagleby

And they soar and glide and turn so beautifully

And I find it so distasteful

That a creature oh so graceful

Can be put at risk by those who dare not see.
