Patrick, 9, proves kindness knows no age

A local 9-year-old has broken a personal record after donating more than 100 of his Lego creations to sick children.

Patrick Meszaros, from Shailer Park, started building and donating Lego vehicles to families in Logan in 2022.

He was inspired by Louie Naumovski from Logan House Fire Support Network, who Patrick heard speak on the news about a family who had lost everything in a house fire just before Christmas.

So Patrick gave some of his own Lego creations to the children who had lost their toys.

Since then, his generosity has only grown.

In 2022, Patrick built and donated 50 Lego vehicles to the Logan House Fire Support Network.

In 2023, he created 62 vehicles for Logan Children’s Hospital so sick children could receive a gift on Christmas Day.

Last year, he donated more than 100 vehicles to Logan Hospital and an emergency services toy run – a new personal best.

And he is already preparing for an even bigger 2025, with a goal to donate more than 200 vehicles.

Patrick’s mum, Nerida, said he was always a thoughtful person.

“I describe him as an old man in a little body,” she said.

“He is very thoughtful and he just wants to help others.

“It makes him feel good when he is helping people.

“Back when he was in kindegarten, it seemed like he just wanted to help people, and from an early age he loved Lego.”

Ms Meszaros said local councillor Mindy Russell helped raise Lego donations in the community.

“Any leftover Lego, Patrick uses whatever bits and crafts his own vehicles,” she said.

Clinical nurse consultant at Logan Hospital’s children’s inpatient unit, Maggie Knowles, said Patrick “always bring a smile to the kids who find themselves in hospital over the Christmas period”.

“His most recent donation of LEGO was so generous that we can continue to hand out presents throughout the year, making it the gift that keeps on giving,” she said.

Patrick’s kindness has spread across the community, even inspiring the local police.

“Patrick’s generosity and creativity have truly united the Logan community,” Acting Sergeant of Logan police Lou Rossi of said.

“His acts of kindness have not only brought joy to children in need but also inspired others to give back.

“He’s a shining example of the good we can achieve together.”

Mr Rossie said Patrcik was a young leader “in every sense of the word”.

“He has shown us all the power of compassion and how even the smallest actions can make a big difference,” he said.

“We are so proud to have him in our community.”
