Numbers indicate economy is above average

The state government is talking up a trend unemployment rate of 3.8% for March, as released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Numbers show 228,500 people have been given a job, compared to pre-Covid levels in March 2020.

This includes 58,200 jobs over the past year.

The state’s participation rate of 66.3% in March 2023 remains above the 65.7% recorded in March 2020.

Logan historically sits slightly lower than the state average.

The March 2023 NAB Monthly Business Survey confirmed that in trend terms, Queensland had the strongest business conditions of all mainland states at +26 index points.

ABS trade data shows that Queensland’s overseas merchandise exports totalled $135.8 billion in the year ending February 2023, representing a $44.6 billion increase from a year earlier.

Treasurer and local member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said the state’s economic strength was supported by business conditions, which continue to rank well above the national average.

“The latest ABS regional Labour Force data shows the strength in Queensland’s labour market extends right across the state,” Mr Dick said.

“With a diverse economy, pro-business government and highly-skilled workforce, the conditions are right for Queensland’s growth story to continue.”
