No favours in first Labor budget

Families across Logan City will be worse off after Labor’s first Federal Budget with Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers delivering an economic strategy that will make things even tougher for all Australian families.

At a time when many families are already struggling with higher energy, fuel, and food prices, they’re going to be hit even harder.

This Labor Budget will cause the cost of living to rise, with electricity and gas bills going up, and increased tax payments. Government spending will grow, but employment and real wages will fall.

We calculate, based on all of these factors, your typical Australian family will be $2000 worse off by Christmas.

The other criticism that I have about this Albanese/Chalmers Budget is the lack of detail around important infrastructure projects across Forde.

There was a recommitment to projects we already know about, such as the Coomera Connector and the duplication of the train line between Beenleigh and Kuraby.

But I wrote to the Treasurer Jim Chalmers, my electoral neighbour and the Member for Rankin, ahead of the Budget, apparently to no avail.

I was extremely frustrated to see that no information on any of these important projects was included in Labor’s funding announcements. I hope fed up motorists remember who to thank the next time they are sitting in a traffic jam on the M1 or backed-up at Exit 38 in Yatala.

Labor’s Budget also scrapped the Building Better Regions Fund and Community Development Grants, which have provided a valuable funding lifeline for sporting and community groups.

It is clear that Labor doesn’t care about our local community.
