Logan icons, Fishers of Men will soon have a new truck thanks to the Palaszczuk government, so they can continue the great work they do in our community.
Based in Rochedale South, and run by locals Bronwen and Bobby, they are one of ten organisations to share in $2.9 million to help deliver close to six million meals for people in need and divert 2,993 tonnes of good food from landfill.
Congratulating the local team, Springwood MP, Mick de Brenni said Fishers of Men would use the new truck to deliver more than just meals.
“I know cost of living pressures are hitting some families hard, so funding Fishers of Men to reach out and provide meals to those in need of both a meal and connection is the right thing to do.”
“Figures show that 21% of people in our community experience some sort of food insecurity and Fishers of Men can ease that pain as well as being there to offer other support.”
According to the government, food insecurity can have a big impact on a person’s physical and mental health.
The government is stepping in to help while also helping the environment – through its Food Rescue Grant Program.
Fishers of Men, Logan, will receive $213,408 for a new food van with a pie warmer, and funds to offset staff wages. The organisation estimates that by June 2024, some 23.4 tonnes of food will be saved from landfill with this funding, and more importantly be used to save lives.
