Construction of two new schools has started at Logan Reserve, with both “on target” to welcome students in 2027.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said the schools, a high school and special school, were being built to “meet the needs of the fast-growing Logan community”.
“By investing in these projects, we’re not just building classrooms – we’re creating spaces where students can thrive, and teachers can inspire the next generation of Queenslanders,” he said.
The high school will include an administration building, art and design building, performing arts centre, library, multi-storey learning centre, an industrial technology and design building, and a multi-purpose sports centre.
The special school for students from prep to year 12 will feature an administration building, multi-purpose hall, junior and senior learning centres, a resource centre, canteen, music and hospitality classrooms.
Construction of both projects is expected to support more than 120 local jobs, according to the Queensland government.
Mr Langbroek said the special school would ensure students with higher support needs received specialised teaching and learning to help them thrive.
“This gives parents the choice to decide which schooling option is best for their child to ensure they reach their potential.
“The high school’s multi-purpose sports centre will also provide a training hub for students ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“We’re committed to ensuring all students can access world-class education close to home by building new schools in our State’s fastest growing areas.”
In a press release, the state government claimed the former Labor government failed to plan for future population growth.
Logan MP Linus Power said that was “demonstrably false”.
“This is the site we had not only chosen, but had purchased and cleared in preparation for construction,” he said.
“I had been pushing it, both in parliament and directly with the minister. I’m glad they are moving forward with it.”
