A new parcels-focused post office has opened in Yarrabilba, as Australia Post expands its network across South East Queensland.
The facility at Waldron Street is the fourth of its kind in Queensland, offering a “next-generation” format designed to speed up parcel drop-offs, collections and returns.
It replaces parcel collection services previously handled through the local community postal agency.
Australia Post said the shift reflects changing customer habits, with parcel collection now the main reason people visit a post office.
The new site focuses almost entirely on parcels, combining staffed counters with self-service options.
For Yarrabilba residents, the most immediate change is round-the-clock access.
The site includes free, secure parcel lockers available 24 hours a day, allowing people to collect or return online purchases outside standard business hours.
Vending machines stocked with packaging and mailing supplies are also available.
General manager retail operations north, Sarah Coe, said the model is designed for fast-growing communities, like Yarrabilba, where demand for parcel services is increasing.
“The number one reason customers visit a Post Office is to collect a parcel, so we’re making it quicker and easier to collect and send parcels at a time that suits them,” Ms Coe said.
“In high-growth areas like Yarrabilba, we’re evolving our network to keep pace with how our customers are using postal services.”
A dedicated parcel hub is expected to reduce wait times and ease pressure on traditional post office services in the area.
While the new format has a smaller shopfront, it uses a more efficient back-of-house system to handle higher parcel volumes.
For locals, the change signals a shift away from traditional over-the-counter postal services towards a more flexible, self-service model shaped by e-commerce demand.
