New bridge opens at Munruben

NEW southbound lanes are open along the Mount Lindesay Highway at Munruben.

And motorists can now travel across Norris Creek bridge, marking a major milestone in the $75 million Mount Lindesay Highway, Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Road upgrade.

The highway is being widened from two to four lanes, new northbound and southbound bridges across Norris Creek built, and safety upgrades installed.

There is also better protection for wildlife.

The project is a joint state-federal partnership, set to be finished late this year.

Main Roads minister Mark Bailey said it was good news for local drivers who would now have access to improved driving conditions.

“The project has placed more than 22,500 tonnes of asphalt, 9000 square metres of foamed bitumen and 12km of guardrail across the upgrade to date,” Mr Bailey said.

“What’s better is the level of training and upskilling that continues to be delivered by this project – that’s opportunities for locals that otherwise wouldn’t exist.

“More than 9000 apprentice and trainee training hours have been undertaken, exceeding the project’s initial commitment by 285%.

“That’s big – big news for drivers, suppliers and the local economy alike.”

Local state member Linus Power said the four lanes across Norris Creek Bridge was a local milestone.
