AMY Ryan was a little girl with a pink guitar when she first went to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in 2019.
This year, the Logan-based country singer used her experience at the ripe old age of 14 to take home numerous awards.
Amy had her first taste of busking in Peel St outside Gloria Jeans in Tamworth late one night and enjoyed it so much she and her father approached the owner to book the spot the following year.
She has a couple of recorded songs, Sitting Pretty and Heartstrings. Both were self-recorded.
Just before heading off to Tamworth this year, she was granted money from Logan City Council to produce a new CD.
“It’s not a cheap exercise to do, writing, recording and publishing music,” mother Brigitta Ryan said.
“Amy is always keen to write songs whether it be on her own or be it a co-write, singing and playing for those that are keen to listen.”
It was her fourth trip to Tamworth, and she returned last week with five trophies from the six competitions she entered – two for song writing and others for talent quests.
She was named best under 18 female vocalist at the Independent Country Music Brumby Awards, CCMA junior songwriter of the year and took out the National Jamboree.
Amy has already been to the US on country music scholarships and has had the opportunity to play with some of the best in the business, says mother Ms Ryan.
She’s played with Golden Guitar Winners such as Kristy Cox at her Bluegrass pickin’ Spectacular Show, Pete Dehnay’s Breakfast Show, opening for Kirsty Lee Akers at West Diggers, guest on Chad Morgan’s show, guest on Luke O’Shea’s show and guest on the Back To Bush Spectacular with Dianne Lindsay and Peter Simpson at Toyota Park.
This year, the Logan rising star has studio time planned at Vibetone Studios and festivals already booked in, such as the Capella Country Music Festival, Dolly Parton Festival in Narromine and Texas Country Music Festival.
