Friday night’s Business Distinction Awards were a true celebration of some great work being done in the local economy.
The speech from Munster Services Group managing director Eric Guthrie cut to the heart of a business that truly values the work being done by its team.
He thanked his family, friends and employees: “They’re not my employees. They’re my friends,” he told a packed house at Beenleigh Events Centre.
Some of the winners were world leaders in their field, such as Murray Hallam from Practical Aquaponics who has taught highly successful aquaponics farmers in different continents how to apply their trade to mass-scale developments.
Others such as “new business of the year” Yodel are starting their journey, and making inroads – in this case with app technology to connect businesses with consumers.
There were huge corporations with hundreds of employees, through to sole operators. It was an eclectic group of people, each with a common goal – to do well.
On page 5, there is a story about Logan City Council’s pledge to be a business-friendly entity. It’s a positive sign and can only auger well as the city grows.
That combined with a five-year plan to attract big business, simultaneously helping existing businesses to grow, there are exciting times ahead for employment, growth and sustainability in the city.
And if the enthusiasm of those at Friday night’s event is any indication, we’ve got the talent to pull it off.
