A project that will supplement Beaudesert’s water supply with Logan-sourced water will soon become fully operational once testing works are complete.
The state government says the South West Pipeline is “the most significant addition” to the south-east Queensland water grid since 2012.
Once commissioned, an average of 2.5 million litres of water will be gravity fed through Flagstone and to the Scenic Rim region per day.
Seqwater Interim CEO Will Harpham said the project was a key priority.
“We’re pleased the pipeline will soon be commissioned and bolstering water security for locals,” he said.
“The Scenic Rim is experiencing a period of significant growth and Seqwater remains committed to the Beaudesert Water Supply Upgrade project, including the proposed connection of Wyaralong Dam to the SEQ Water Grid.
“Seqwater is always looking at ways to optimise the use of the SEQ Water Grid and existing water infrastructure.
“A business case is underway to explore a new water treatment plant downstream from Wyaralong Dam and we look forward to providing an update as the project progresses.”
The project has supported more than 100 jobs during construction.
Member for Logan Linus Power said he was happy to see almost 90% of these jobs filled by local tradespeople.
“This is an important piece of the puzzle of our future water infrastructure – and I was pleased to inspect the Wyaralong Water Treatment Pilot Plant with the Water Minister late last year.
“Clearly, its only ever Labor Governments that deliver the infrastructure our growing communities need.”
Other final works including landscaping are underway and expected finish soon.
