Logan police step up road safety crackdown ahead of Easter

Logan police have ramped up high-visibility patrols across the district as part of Operation Marshall in the lead-up to the Easter long weekend.

Officers are targeting dangerous driving, running roadside breath testing (RBT) operations and engaging with the community to reinforce road safety messages.

On 27 March, static RBT sites at Yarrabilba and Flagstone saw 281 drivers tested.

Police detected two alleged drink drivers, returning breath alcohol concentrations of 0.122 per cent and 0.133 per cent.

One of the drivers was also allegedly unlicensed and driving an unregistered car.

A Flagstone man, 37, allegedly returned a reading of 0.122 per cent.

He was issued a Notice to Appear for driving over the middle alcohol limit and had his licence immediately suspended.

He is due to appear in Beaudesert Magistrates’ Court on 14 April.

A Yarrabilba man, 30, allegedly returned a reading of 0.133 per cent.

He was issued a Notice to Appear for driving over the middle alcohol limit, as well as unlicensed and unregistered driving offences.

He is due to appear in Beaudesert Magistrates Court on 21 April.

Further operations on 29 March along Tamborine Mountain Road and Beaudesert-Nerang Road saw another 256 drivers tested.

Police detected one driver allegedly over the legal limit and a disqualified driver, whose car was immobilised for 90 days.

Officers also reported multiple positive interactions with motorists.

Across both operations, more than 500 roadside breath tests were carried out.

Inspector Emma Reilly said the results were a timely reminder ahead of one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

“While it’s pleasing to see the majority of drivers doing the right thing, it’s concerning that we are still detecting people making dangerous decisions behind the wheel,” Ms Reilly said.

“Drink driving and other high-risk behaviours put lives at risk – not just the drivers, but everyone else on the road.

“With increased traffic expected over the Easter holidays, we will continue to maintain a strong presence across Logan roads to deter unsafe behaviour and keep our community safe.”

Police say they will continue to target high-risk offences and are urging motorists to plan ahead, avoid drink driving and take care on the roads this Easter.
