Logan is set to be at the forefront of a multi-city “Climate Resilience Alliance”.
The project is set to look at the way southeast Queensland tackles climate change issues.
The City of Logan won a $100,000 grant to lead the project in collaboration with Brisbane, Ipswich, Noosa and Sunshine Coast councils.
Deputy mayor Jon Raven, said it was an exciting opportunity for Logan to show it is a leader in climate change initiatives.
“This pilot will strengthen council’s commitment to climate change resilience and aligns with our target to be carbon neutral target,” Cr Raven said.
“Logan is proud to take a lead the when it comes to climate resistance. Our community expects us to collaborate with other Councils so that we can plan for a sustainable future across the entire region.
“City of Logan’s leadership will not only help all five participating Councils better address the threats of climate change, it will also give us the knowledge and tools to better educate and support our communities.”
The mission, as outlined in Logan’s grant submission, is to achieve:
• Increased understanding of key climate risks for council, the City of Logan community and the broader South East Queensland community
• Regional collaboration on identifying the roles and responsibilities for addressing climate risks across the region
• A region-wide collaborative and cooperative strategy to build climate resilience An invitation will be extended to other South East Queensland councils to participate in the project.
