The much-needed Logan Hospital extension has nabbed the Project of the Year award at the 2024 Housing and Construction Awards.
John Holland took home the Professional Certification Group Project of the Year award in the major awards category and the gong for Health Facilities over $20 million for the vital community healthcare project, Logan Hospital Expansion Project – Stage 1.
The John Holland team earned high praise from this year’s judges, who hailed the level of construction detail on this complex project as “nothing short of exceptional”.
The five-level vertical expansion was crafted above the live emergency and paediatric departments with no disruption, while several other departments, including the kitchen, were refurbished in existing buildings.
The panel also commended the team’s seamless integration of hi-tech services for patient care, and pivoting to complete works on time during COVID, and a flooding event.
Apollo were also awarded in the Health Facilities up to $20 million category for the Mater Health Hub, Springfield.
Master Builders Deputy CEO and Awards Ambassador, Sue-Ann Fresneda, congratulated the winners across all 63 categories.
“Our Housing & Construction Awards are the jewel in the crown of our annual calendar of events, honouring not just the residential and commercial projects, but the people who make the industry so special,” Ms Fresneda said.
“Amid labour shortages, a 40 per cent jump in the cost to build in the last three years, and an avalanche of regulatory change as we work to build the homes and projects our communities need, our sector is facing its fair share of challenges right now.
“However, as we know, the industry is nothing if not resilient – and the calibre of the entries we’ve seen this year are testament to that.”
