JOHN Paul College product Shreyas Raman has been named among the state’s elite graduating Year 12 students of 2022.
At a state government ceremony in Brisbane on Saturday, he was one of 43 graduates to receive a prestigious Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Achievement Award for exceptional academic achievements.
He was dux of the college last year and received an ATAR score of 99.95.
“I have always been fascinated by engineering and solving real-world problems with mathematical and scientific reasoning,” he said.
“I hope to work in this field after university and make positive contributions to the world.”
Shreyas said he planned to study a dual bachelor degree at the University of Queensland this year, in engineering and science.
He offered some advice to other students seeking good grades: “Establishing positive study habits early is crucial to maintaining the level of discipline needed to achieve excellence.”
The QCE Achievement Awards are sponsored by Griffith University, The University of Queensland and University of Southern Queensland.
“These awards highlight what can be achieved within our world-class Queensland education system,” education minister Grace Grace said.
“The Queensland Certificate of Education system allows all senior students to follow the post-school pathway that’s right for them — whether that’s work, further education or training. But it also challenges our most academically gifted students to reach their full potential.
“I thank the school principals, teachers, and all school staff responsible for creating the learning cultures that helped our award winners to thrive.
“This is also a proud day for families, who provide so much support.”
