Jobs, economy and steel

Jobs, economy and steel

Because our state has managed the health impacts of COVID-19 and avoided extensive lockdowns, our economy has continued to thrive.

In September alone, Queensland added 30,800 jobs, more than any other state or territory in Australia.

Our unemployment rate has now dropped to 4.9 per cent, its lowest level since March 2009.

To put that in perspective, the last time unemployment in Queensland was this low, the Maroons hadn’t even won four Origin series in a row, let alone eight.

The Palaszczuk Government has now created 350,250 jobs since being first elected in 2015, and that’s even with an 18-month global pandemic to deal with.

There’s no question our economic recovery plan is on track, and it’s helping more Queenslanders into work and more Queensland businesses soar.

For communities like Logan, that creates greater opportunities.

And for fantastic local businesses like Beenleigh Steel Fabrications, that means growth and jobs.

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of joining the BSF team to turn the first sod on their new site in Berrinba.

This is a company that’s been operating and employing in Logan for more than 40 years now, and they continue to invest in our city because they see huge potential here.

Our government is proud to be helping BSF build the $4.2 million facility with support through our $175 million Jobs and Regional Growth Fund, and we’re excited by the prospect of almost 60 new local jobs being created from this.

With our economy in great shape and job numbers tracking in the right direction, it’s clear Queensland is the place to be.
