A Logan dance crew have showcased incredible grit and grace at an international competition on the other side of the world.
Three teams from the Bloodline Dance Company flew to Arizona in the USA to compete in the World Hip Hop championships.
Dance company director Juanita Stowers said Logan’s teams competed against more than 3000 of the world’s best dancers across 55 countries.
“Participating in worlds requires a lot of commitment and sacrifice,” Ms Stowers said.
“To compete at such a high level, you can’t give anything less, and the dancers really see it from themselves when they get over there.
“We prepare our dancers both physically and mentally to ensure they are ready.”
Bloodline teams competed in the junior crews (ages 7-12), JV Mega crew (10-40 member team of under 17s) and Mega crew (10-40 member team of all ages).
All three teams made it to the semi-finals, with two placing in the top 10 out of 42 teams.
“We pushed so much in every single way and to get the results we did was a positive indication to us that we are on the right track in building our teams to one day reach that finals stage,” Ms Stowers said.
“Especially this year we received a lot of recognition from other countries which was an amazing feeling.”
She said the process of choosing teams for the competition started in December last year with auditions, before regional and national’s qualifiers in April and May.
“It is a long process that we have gone through three years in a row now,” she said.
“Our teams this year consisted of dancers who have been with us since day one and dancers who have just joined at auditions, so we have to start as early as possible in order to mentor the dancers to all be on the same page and prepare for this level of competing.
“Over the last few years we have learnt so much from being a part of this competition and what it requires to be successful in this competition.”
Ms Stowers said Bloodline Dance Company was already in the planning stages for 2025, so aspiring dancers should “keep an eye out”.
