FLASHING school zone signs will be installed outside 10 “high-risk” schools across Logan, after local drivers recorded almost 430 school zone speeding infringements in 2024.
The state government says research shows flashing school zone signs lead to a 45% drop in the number of motorists exceeding the speed limit by more than 10 km/h, and will “help protect lives on our roads”.
Minister for Education John-Paul Langbroek said driver awareness in school zones was paramount to helping save lives.
“Every child deserves to feel safe on their way to and from school. These flashing signs are a simple but powerful reminder to drivers to slow down and stay alert,” Minister Langbroek said.
“We’re listening to school communities and acting on their concerns to make school zones safer across Queensland.”
The following schools are considered “high risk” and will received new flashing signs:
- Groves Christian College (Laughlin St – Kingston)
- Logan Village State School
- Kingston State College
- Kingston State School
- Chisholm Catholic College (Cornubia)
- Yarrabilba State School
- St Paul’s School (Woodridge)
- Carbrook State School
- Kimberley College (Carbrook)
- Marsden State High School
