It’s a privilege being the Councillor for the heart of Logan City – Division 2.
I say this with a lifetime of knowledge of the local area I live in and represent. From attending pre-school with Miss Judy at Kingston to military service in the Royal Australian Army, to coming back to Logan to raise my family, this city has been the place where I feel safe, connected and energised.
Division 2: A community of kindness
We have the most number of volunteers who work on everything from helping underprivileged people get employment, working in op shops, feeding people in their homes and on the street, to hand-making items for camp quality and local hospitals.
We are a community of doers not gunnas! From babies to school age there’s help and activities at The Family Place, teens are covered after school and school holidays with the new Wilbur St Youth Hub.
Cr Teresa Lane’s Facebook Page
There’s a variety of activities and groups meeting at our library in Wilbur St. Our First Nations connections through Logan Elders, Gunya Meta and Nutcha are operating a huge number of programs for local residents. Our Seniors Centre located in front of council has programs for Craft, Indoor Bowls, Probus, Ukulele lessons, Zumba and other activities.
Amputees Queensland host programs that energise and inform on legal matters (wills and POA), home safety, mobility classes, garden club, chiro appointments, and provide spaces for our cultural community to activate their programs.
Our Neighbourhood Watch crew run free community days each year thanks to our local MPs Jim Chalmers and Cameron Dick and Mayor Jon Raven for helping me out with the costs to get in happening.
Ours is a community that doesn’t have a lot but what we do have is kindness in spades.
Facing older building challenges head on
Being the local councillor of an area with very old buildings presents a real challenge. In the first term I undertook a range of updates and upgrades to many facilities. Solar panels were installed on roofs to reduce power costs for the lessees but also the groups who use their facilities.
We installed new cameras, improved the Woodridge Train Station Croydon Rd area in anticipation of a station upgrade, supported the Kingston Butter Factory users with improved facilities, funded a lot of sporting upgrades where we could afford it and went hunting for State and Federal funding for projects we just couldn’t afford to do on our own.
Wilbur St Youth Hub, Compton Park Clubhouse replacement, Eridani Park upgrade, Beenleigh Rd 4 laning, Croydon Rd precinct upgrade, Kingston Butter Factory rebuild into an entertainment precinct was all done with three levels of government working together.
Jim Chalmers, Cameron Dick and I work together to get great outcomes for the community we all love and represent.
