A mission to make Logan City Council’s website easy to understand seems to be paying dividends.
The site was recently audited by an independent company, me2accessibility, and was rated highly accessible for people with disability.
It received an AA rating for meeting nationally accepted guidelines of inclusion and accessibility.
The accessibility compliance certificate follows on from Council becoming the first in Australia to be awarded the gold standard in plain language for the website.
Over the past two years, Council’s corporate website, logan.qld.gov.au, has been upgraded and redesigned.
This ensures the range of text, audio visual and language on the website can be widely used by the community, including by people who are blind or have vision impairment and use a screen reader to view websites.
City Lifestyle chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said the new website meets the needs of residents in the City of Logan which boasts 217 different cultures.
“Accessibility and plain language ensure equal access and opportunity for all of our community in using the website,” Cr Koranski said.
Her deputy Councillor Tony Hall said almost 3.5 million people had visited the website in the past year.
